As a Mariah Carey fan it’s hard to say this, but the superstar may need to start plotting her comeback.

According to reports, her new studio album, Me. I Am Mariah…The Elusive Chanteuse, is performing at the low end of expectations — we’re talking the lowest first-week sales of her career!

While the officially U.S. numbers have yet to be released, sales forecasts are predicting that the project will sell around 55,000 to 60,000 copies in the week ending June 1. Billboard reports that those numbers could give Mimi a possible start at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart. And if the official UK album chart’s are any prediction, this is looking to be true. According to reports, the album debut with just 6,547 copies sold over the pond. Ouch.

Considering that Mariah — the diva of all divas! — has had six No. 1 albums between 1991 and 2008 these numbers represent a significant decline. Predecessor Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel sold a total of 168,000 copies its debut week, and prior to that E=MC² moved 463,000 units.
