black-friday-sale

Black Friday is officially over and reports are saying that sales are down 11% from last year according to projections from Prosper Insights & Analytics.

The reports say that over the weekend, including black Friday, sales dropped from $57.4 billion to $50.9billion this year.

Many have been crediting ‘Blackout Black Friday’ – a movement helped by celebrities and political activists to boycott Black Friday, due to the unrest in Ferguson, MO, after a grand jury failed to indict Darren Wilson.

Officer Wilson killed unarmed teen Mike Brown back on August 9th, and Brown’s death sparked riots, and protests about police brutality and use of excessive force against African Americans.

While it’s not totally clear why sales plummeted this year – it could be burnout, or retailers offering similar sales ahead of time – many believe that spending #notonedime had a major impact.
