Chicago’s been a hot bed for hip-hop these last few years, and despite the media’s recent shift of focus, even more dope artists are emerging from the depths of the city’s coldest coves.

With almost every video he releases reaching over a million views, Montana of 300 has leveraged himself as an undeniable emcee whose lyricism isn’t inspired by drill-culture, but instead by topics like social injustice, poverty, and rising above the madness.

After appearing on Fox’s hit TV series Empire and his chance meeting with award-winning actor/comedian Chris Rock, Montana of 300 found himself in a promising position. While on set, Chris Rock inquired about the rapper’s rising career and linked him with music legend Rick Rubin. Soon thereafter, Montana spent time at the Def Jam founder’s house with Russell Simmons, Kanye West, Kim and Khloe Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, and NBA baller James Harden.

Montana of 300 stopped by GlobalGrind’s offices to discuss his rise in the rap game, being different from other Chicago artists, hanging with Kanye West and Rick Rubin, and details about his new project.

Montana of 300’s forthcoming Fire In The Church is due out later on this year. In the meantime, watch our new interview with him up top.
