Drug Kingpin Joaquin 'Chapo' Guzman Recaptured in Mexico

Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán is getting his own Netflix series. The enigmatic Mexican cartel leader made headlines last year when he famously escaped from jail in an underground tunnel. Since his arrest he’s been linked to various movies and projects, including a weird situation with actor Sean Penn. The new series will be based on his rise to power.

“We are thrilled to partner with the award-winning Univision Story House on the timely and globally relevant drama series based on the life story of El Chapo,” Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s chief content officer, said in a statement. “El Chapo is a great example of how Univision continues to innovate and evolve with premium storytelling formats,” Univision CEO Randy Falco added.”

The series will be released on Unimas in 2017 before it makes it way over to America for exclusive Netflix streaming. If you can’t wait for the Netflix series, the History Channel already has a series based on El Chapo named #Cartel. There will also be a biopic coming out within the next year in the event you don’t want to binge watch Netflix to find out about the former drug kingpin’s life.
