Today in Bull City, Black August in the Park takes place — a celebration of black culture, black food, black music, and black excellence — from 3-8pm. Last week on #919Radio with Mir.I.am, The Black August in the Park squad stopped by the discuss the annual celebration, what it means, how it all began, and more.

The celebration of blackness takes place today at Durham Central Park — 501 Foster St. in Durham.

Join us tomorrow at #blackaugustinthepark16! There's so much Black love in store. Music provided by DJs @remyfromdaville and @djcomplex. Food available from Black owned food trucks including @boricuasoulnc, @fullstreetwings, @thepalaceint, R&B Grill, Snowie NC, Hickory Turkey BBQ, and more! Family zone created by @villageofwisdom. Social justice organizations will be onsite to share info about their work. These include @spirithouse_inc, NC Song, NC Sexual Health Con, The Beautiful Project, All of Us Or None and many others. BAP merchandise (t shirts and buttons) will also be available for purchase this year at info booths. We are excited about celebrating Blackness with y'all… openly and unapologetically. 3 pm to 8 pm @durhamcentralpark
