Nix is a native of Durham, NC, and a graduate of the world famous Hillside High School. After high school, she attended North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro. It was at A&T, that her love of movies and writing came together. After reading a review of Eddie Murphy’s movie, Boomerang, Nix was very upset that a critic gave the film an ‘F’. Her teacher, Mrs. Wiggins, told her that most movie critics were older, white men and that they didn’t always get the black perspective. Armed with an idea, Nix set out to become a nationally recognized movie critic. She started small at the A&T Register and after graduation she worked for a small paper, The Urban Journal. She stopped writing for a short time and joined Public Allies. Public Allies is a non-traditional leadership program for young adults. After the break, she began work with Plugged.TV, as their movie critic. For about 5 years, Nix could be seen on Plugged, on Raleigh’s Public Access channel and for about a year on WQOK-FM on Monday afternoons at 5:30 pm.

Nix has written several plays. Four of her plays were read at the National Black Theater Festival in Winston-Salem. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., National Association of Black Journalist, and an active member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Durham. In her spare time, Nix enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading, watching movies and dancing. She enjoys spending time with her seven Godchildren, niece and her other “children”. She is also currently working on her first romance novel.

Spike Lee has never been one to shy away from controversy. In the 1988 film School Daze, Lee gives a semi-autobiographical account of his experience attending Morehouse College, the historically all male black institution in Atlanta, Georgia. With a satirical eye, Lee explored hot-button topics such as colorism, misogyny, class divisions and apartheid.
