For those who remember seeing the 1984 classic film, The Karate Kid you will be pleasantly surprised with the remake. Now I will be first to admit that I was a little worried about seeing an updated version. Most remakes are a sad shadow of the original but lucky for us, The Karate Kid 2010 does a great job of capturing the spirit of the first one but is different enough to keep your attention.

From the jump, you know that things are different. The kid’s name isn’t Daniel, its Dre. His family moves from Detroit to China. The Dre is a lot younger than Daniel. And Dre doesn’t learn karate; he learns kung fu which is taught in China. Karate is taught in Japan. The audience didn’t know or care. Yet, with all of those differences, the movie still works.

The shell of The Karate Kid as the same. Dre is the new kid and gets beat up twice by a bully over a girl. The second beat down and Dre gets BEAT DOWN, is stopped by Mr. Han, the apartment handy man. Who teaches the bullies a lesson on beat downs. Han teaches Dre the art of Kung Fu and they enter the local tournament. You hear the classic line about the leg and Dre wins. YEAH!

These producers have all had their share of great remixes, but who has created the best ones?

Once upon a time in “music business land,” the remix was heavily sought after and appreciated. Producers would put their all into creating a “spin-off” to a song to create a new sound.

The way things go now is- just add a wack rapper on a track and you have a remix. That wasn’t the case back when Diddy was Puffy, or Timbaland didn’t have muscles, and JD had braids. There are plenty of producers we could have picked to go against each other, but these are three elite executives that have shown consistency over a long period of time.

We chose three of the producers best remixes and pinned them up against each other.

P.Diddy

“Take That”

Diddy said he “invented the remix” but he probably invented it just as much as Trey Songz “Invented Sex.” You can’t deny that he has contributed some of the greatest remixes in music history though. P.Diddy didn’t create the beats for these songs but he hand a handful to do with remixing them. Let’s listen to some…

One More Chance Remix

Honey Remix- Mariah Carey ft Puff Daddy & The Family

Flava In Your Ear-Craig Mack, Biggie, LL Cool J, Busta Rhymes

Diddy went in on “One More Chance,” the remix is 10x better than the original could ever be!

Timbaland

Timbaland was just honored by VH1 at the Hip Hop Honors: Dirty South for his outstanding work in music. Timbaland’s sound has been described as futuristic and refreshing. He uses beats and mixes that aren’t normally paired to give you a sound that isn’t normally heard. Let’s get into his remixes…

Get Your Freak On Remix- Missy ft. Nelly Furtado

Hot Like Fire Remix- Aaliyah ft Missy Elliot & Timbaland

Bounce Remix From Step Up 2 Soundtrack

“Bounce” has one of the craziest beats I have ever heard, this is getting hard…

Jermaine Dupri

Jermaine Dupri was also honored at Vh1’s Hip Hop Honors: Dirty South. He said he came up with the name So So Def during the 90’s when everything out was “Def” even Def Jam. He put the So So in front of it because he said he was just so much “defer” than anyone out. Honestly speaking- his music is definitely hot! Last but not least here’s JD’s remixes…

Let’s Get married Remix- Jagged Edge ft. Run DMC

Sleeping In my Bed- So So Def Remix- Dru Hill ft Jermaine Dupri & Da Brat

Welcome To Atlanta Remix- Jermaine Dupri ft. Ludacris, P.Diddy, Murphy Lee, Snoop Dogg

I don’t know, that “Welcome To Atlanta Remix” is tough!

The winner is… You Decide!

June is Black Music Month so The Urban Daily put tgether the top 10 black musicals.

June is Black Music Month, so to celebrate we took a trip down memory lane to bring you 10 of the greatest music movies/ biopics ever made.

Let’s get this started with…
The 5 Heartbeats

Was it only me who thought that “The 5 Heartbeats” were a real group? Whether they were real or not, “The 5 Heartbeats” were based off of real life situations and characters in the music industry. The story line consists of two brothers who find themselves in love with the same woman, a lead-singer addicted to fame and drugs, and a record executive out to get all their money. “The 5 Heartbeats” is inspired by groups like The Temptations, The Dells, and The Four Tops.

Watch the BEST scene in the movie. Eddie Cane goes in on “Is There A Heart In the House?” I cringe every time!

Sparkle

Sparkle was inspired by “The Supremes (Sister is Diana Ross) and released in 1976. Set in Harlem during the 50’s Sparkle, Sister, and Dolores found themselves catapulted into stardom after performing at a nightclub. Drugs, abusive men, and jealousy ensued soon after and caused the soulful sisters to break up.

Check out their famous red dresses!

The Temptations

The Temptations as a group are considered the best of the best, and so is the movie. An all star cast with a big budget to match! The Temptations movie was full of drama, some death, and lots of drugs(which seems to be the common factor here) that causes major damage within the members.

Watch the clip where the whole Temptation reign started:

What do you do when you want to be famous? Steal a “gangsta’s” identity, grab some friends and pursue your career in rap. That’s what Chris Rock did! CB4 is a satire of the rap business and music industry, from the ho*s to the fake music video sets.

“Did I mention before, that I can dance?”

Sister Act 2: Back In The Habit

Bad a** teens with great voices plus Whoopi Goldberg equals an inspirational movie! Before Lauryn Hill went crazy and Ryan Toby joined City High they were hitting high notes in this classic.

Don’t you just love when Toby hits that last note!

The Jacksons: American Dream

Wasn’t watching Michael Jackson play with rats and monkeys so very amusing(maybe not)? Nor was watching a pretend Joe Jackson beat his kids with switches. What made it such a good movie was that it let us in to the life of the man we all love (Michael Jackson) though. The movie made it clear that the Jackson’s lived a life not so glamorous.

The Wiz

Michael Jackson, Leena Horne, Diana Ross, and Richard Pryor all in one movie- now you know it was going to be great! Motown set out to remake “The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz” with an all black cast adapted from a 1975 Broadway Musical.

Ray

Was I the only one tired of Ray Charles being featured on everyone’s music tracks after this epic movie? Non-the-less Jamie Foxx won an oscar for his incredible acting job. Ray died before the movie as finished.

Watch Jamie bring Ray Charles to life using his own voice:

Why Do Fools Fall In Love

Larenz Tate hit the mother-load, had 3 wives, Halle Berry, Vivica A. Foxx and Lela Rochon. He battled a serious drug addiction and an uncontrollable temper. His life was short-lived but the movie was good as h*ll!

Whats Love Got To Do With It?

The biopic/ musical of Tina Turner’s rise to fame with crazy “woman beater” Ike will leave you in tears and keep you tapping your feet with her rendition of Rock N’ Roll/ R&B. Did you all hate Ike as much as I did, after the movie?

The infamous “Eat the cake Anna Mae” scene:

Is Gabourey Sidibe the 'toast' of Hollywood or the 'joke' of Hollywood?

Since the Oscars on Sunday, there has been a lot of talk about Ms. Gabourey Sidibe. Some of the talk has been good and some of the talk hasn’t been good. Heck, some of the talk has been down right nasty…Howard Stern. Oh, you didn’t hear what Howard had to say, check this out…

Sony has pulled out of "Spider-Man 4" with Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire because the director did not want to move forward with the script in hand.

Via: TheWrap.Com

Sony has pulled out of “Spider-Man 4″ with Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire because the director did not want to move forward with the script in hand, the studio announced on Monday.

But “Spider-Man” will live on, since the studio has chosen to reboot the franchise for 2012 with another team — another actor and director in charge.

Raimi, who directed the first three Spidey movies, was supposed to start shooting in February 2010. The date was pushed to March because the script wasn’t ready. In all, the “Spider-Man 4″ script was about to embark on its fourth rewrite, this one by Alvin Sargent, the screenwriter for Spideys 2 and 3.

Meanwhile the movie’s stars, Maguire and Dunst, cooled their heels while waiting for the go-ahead.

The film was meant to be the studio’s big tentpole release for May 2011. The decision on Monday leaves the studio with a major hole in its release slate.

What’s more, it brings to an end a collaboration that has inspired many millions of fans, while making billions of dollars for the studio.

“We have had a once-in-a-lifetime collaboration and friendship with Sam and Tobey, and they have given us their best for the better part of the last decade,” said Matt Tolmach, president of Columbia Pictures, who has served as the studio’s chief production executive since the beginning of the franchise. “This is a bittersweet moment for us because while it is hard to imagine ‘Spider-Man’ in anyone else’s hands, I know that this was a day that was inevitable.”

The studio called Tobey Maguire and Kristen Dunst to give them the bad news on Monday, which came to a head in the last few days, as the pressure to make a decision about the production intensified. Production staff had already been told to clear out their desks two weeks ago, while the script — already gone through three versions — got yet another redo by Sargent.

Meanwhile, Sony Pictures Entertainment Co-Chairman Amy Pascal had already ordered a reboot of the franchise from writer Jamie Vanderbilt, who wrote the “Zodiac” screenplay. That involves a different take on the superhero, and will be recast, with a different director leading the production.
