What song do you think is missing from the playlist? Why?

For years, people have been running around with bracelets that say: “What would Jesus Do?”

When you think of Jesus Christ, do you think of him as “the weak, wishy washy, touchy feely Saviour” as he is often portrayed in the media? The Bible reveals the real Jesus—and He is quite different from what many imagine! Not only was Jesus’ message vastly different from what is commonly supposed; neither did He look anything at all like the traditional portraits in movie portrayals we see!

He was thoroughly masculine, commanding the respect and loyalty of young followers who were both successful and hard-working. On the one hand, He was prepared to walk boldly into the courtyard of the Temple with a plaited whip, drive the animals out and overthrow the tables of the moneychangers. On the other hand, He was moved with compassion for the sick and afflicted. Jesus surprised some of the pushy, aggressive young men who were His closest followers by taking time to hold infants in His arms and invoke God’s blessing on them (Luke 18:15–16).

Matthew 7:1, “Judge not, that you be not judged.” But beware; appearances can be deceiving. This famous saying of Jesus isn’t telling us not to judge. Here’s the rest of the passage:

For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.

The problem isn’t judging; it’s failing to judge oneself by the same standard. Jesus calls us to examine ourselves and repent of our own sin before we approach someone who is in error or in sin. He tells us to take the speck out of our brother’s eye – in effect, to judge them after critically judging ourselves. In judging, rebuking, or confronting we must avoid being a wimp, a jerk, or a coward. Wimps sit quietly in the pews, shaking their heads and hoping sin and false teaching will go away by itself. They allow these to destroy lives, families, and churches without lifting a finger. Wimps are strong on love, but weak on justice. Jerks know they’re right and they’re proud of it. They don’t distinguish between real problems and minor disagreements and enjoy pointing out everyone else’s errors and moral failings. These folks are strong on justice, but weak on love. Cowards, unlike wimps, are willing to judge sin and false teaching but, unlike jerks, are unwilling to confront those at fault. They lack the courage to confront the problematic person or group and instead spread dissension and mistrust under the radar. The tragedy of the coward is they end up being just as poisonous as the very thing they oppose. He casts out teachers who prophesy falsely in His name yet gives mercy to the repentant tax collector. This is the way of Jesus. He is suffering servant and glorious king. He was not a wimp who just accepted everything, a jerk who looked down on others, or a coward who was afraid to confront.

Representatives for Mary Mary have just announced that Erica Campbell gave birth to a baby girl, Zaya Monique, Tuesday, January 24, 2012. Mother and daughter are resting comfortably.

Erica stated that she and husband, Warryn Campbell, are “feeling so thankful and so blessed to have our sweet Zaya finally make her grand entrance into the world! God is awesome, our family couldn’t be more happy than we are today!”

Zaya Monique was born at 6 lbs, 12 oz. Congrats Campbell fam!

The singer will take a few weeks to spend with her newborn before gearing up to promote Mary Mary’s new self titled WE tv reality series. The highly anticipated series premiers on Thursday, March 29th at 10pm ET/PT, then continues each week at 9pm ET/PT with ten, hour-long episodes.

Kerry Douglas, the charismatic musical architect who drafted the astounding careers of gospel stars James Fortune and Earnest Pugh, is having an online birthday bash. It all goes down during “The Mr. Kerry Douglas and Brandy B Show,” an online radio program on the VoiceAmerica. A who’s who of gospel celebrities and personalities will be calling into the show to congratulate Douglas on another year of life and to sing happy birthday. Tim Bowman Jr. Continues Winans Legacy By Fusing Pop & Gospel

America first noticed gospel music legend Vickie Winans’ nephew Tim Bowman Jr. when he scatted on the vamp of her 2009 Top 10 radio smash, “How I Got Over.” However, the gifted 22-year old Wayne State University pharmacy student is no longer singing in the background. The son of #1 smooth jazz guitarist Tim Bowman, Bowman is putting the finishing touches on his first solo CD, Beautiful. The thirteen-track set releases April 10, 2012 via I.M. Records, Trippin N’ Rhythm and Sony Red Distribution.

Bowman, whose vocal influences range from a variety of gospel artists to Coldplay, Michael Jackson and Ella Fitzgerald, is poised to shake up the sacred music genre. His unique blend of rhythms would easily fit in on a Top 40 radio music playlist as it would in a Sunday morning church service. The sounds range from pulsating electronica tracks such as “Throw It Away” and “I’m Here” to raw gospel like the riveting, “Abide With Me Medley” that was produced by Marvin Winans of the Grammy Award winning Winans vocal group. In between, there’s the Caribbean rumba of “Looking For Love,” the rousing rock-edged anthem “Healer” and the acoustic guitar-laced ballad, “Beautiful.” Family friend, Dorinda Clark Cole of the legendary Clark Sisters, joins Bowman on the funky “Sunday Morning” while Vickie Winans jazzes up the mid-tempo, “He Will.”

Donnie McClurkin To Host 2012 Superbowl Gospel Celebration

With this year’s Super Bowl set to kick off in a month, the time has come for the 13th annual Super Bowl Gospel Celebration. The inspirational event, which takes place on February 3 at Indianapolis’ Butler University, brings together NFL players and gospel music’s elite artists on one stage for uplifting music and inspirational messages.

Since its 1999 Super Bowl weekend debut, the charitable event has raised close to $400,000, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting national and local charities in Super Bowl host cities, including San Diego, Tampa, Detroit, Jacksonville and Houston.

“This event appeals to us for a number of different reasons,” says American Family Insurance Advertising Director Telisa Yancy. “It’s very family oriented, it’s a good price point. I do believe that it inspires, and I like the fact that it not only entertains people with the artists who are coming to town to celebrate, but the NFL Players Choir adds a special element to it, because it allows the consumers who attend the event to see a different side of some of their greatest icons both past and present.”

Comprised of several christian NFL players who want to share their musical talents in song and instrument, the NFL Choir made its debut at the 2008 Super Bowl Gospel Celebration and has been one of the weekend’s most anticipated performances. With participation from notable stars, including Ray Lewis (Ravens), Marcus Price (retired, Cowboys), David Tyree (Ravens) and Tim Brown (retired, Raiders), among others, choir director and Grammy Award-winning recording artist Donnie McClurkin said that it is an honor to helm such an ensemble.”I was brought in several years ago as a gospel artist, and then we formulated something called the NFL Gospel Choir, and from that point on it has taken off,” McClurkin recently explained to HuffPost Black Voices. “And that’s become the highlight of the NFL Gospel Celebration.” “Some of the greatest, most renowned players you would usually see just one dimensionally, but during this gospel celebration you see their faith, you see their family, you see what really motivates them, more than just the sport. And that intrigued me,” he added. “I loved the fact that they were participants in the Gospel Celebration, and some of the younger guys were really musical. And to be able to be a part of that and to fine tune it, it became an honor.”
