Producer 9th Wonder and rapper David Banner are increasing the promotional efforts surrounding their highly anticipated collaboration album Death of A Pop Star, with the announcement of a new comic strip series.
The pair’s latest effort is an anime-styled comic strip that centers around 9th and Banner living in the real world with superhuman powers.
While 9th Wonder’s character struggles with inner conflict, discipline and violence, David Banner’s character must rise from an impoverished neighborhood, while following a higher calling.
“Comics, sneakers, and Hip-Hop have always been close-knit with each other for years and years,” 9th Wonder told AllHipHop.com. “This comic strip will show you exactly how CLOSE the relationships between those entities are. Death of a Pop Star!”
Banner revealed that the unveiling of the comic strip follows the pairs original vision for the conceptual album, which is slated to hit stores on December 21st.
“The idea with Death of a Pop Star was never for it to be only an album,” Banner added. “The aim of this project was to engage the consumer on many different levels. With the music industry being in the state it’s in, we as artist need to provide as much intriguing content as possible for our fans. This is the second step in exposing the Death of a Pop Star project on many different platforms.”
In addition to the comic strip, 9th Wonder and David Banner recently shot a video for “Be With You” featuring Ludacris, that is slated to debut on MTV on December 16th.
The first installation of the comic can be viewed December 9th on http://www.deathofapopstar.com/
