Cary police say a drunken driver intentionally crashed into a food vendor’s van early Wednesday after the vendor refused to sell him a hot dog and drink for $1. David Lance Kelbaugh, 23, of Rolesville, had been drinking at Pure Gold Club at 301 N. Harrison Ave., according to police, when he decided to leave and order food at a vendor’s stand outside the club. Kelbaugh told the vendor that he had $1 and wanted a hot dog and drink, police said. The vendor said that wasn’t enough money and refused to give Kelbaugh the food. Kelbaugh then yelled at the vendor, got in his car and rammed it into the vendor’s van twice, causing the van to hit a brick column, according to police. The vendor was standing at a grill nearby and was not injured. Kelbaugh left the scene around 2 a.m., police said, and officers pulled him over a short time later on Old Apex Road. He was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon, hit-and-run, DWI, injury to personal property and injury to real property
