Earlier today(3/5/10) the state NAACP filed a complaint against the Wake County Board of Education for comments they viewed as “racist attitudes.” The comments were made by its chairman who referred to a crowd of people as animals. State NAACP president, the Rev. William Barber, is also calling for Wake County Board of Education Chairman Ron Margiotta to step down from his post.

On Tuesday the board voted 5-4 in favor of community-based schools. Many feel this would re-segregate the schools and lead to an unbalanced school system. The last meeting was packed with nearly 100 people who signed up to speak during a public comment portion. At one point during the meeting, Margiotta said, “Here come the animals out of the cages.” Margiotta has said the comment was out of line but not racial. Friday’s complaint was filed with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
