JCPC Education Exploration Tour

Youth and Family Services

June 20th-June 24th

This camp is a partnership between the Raleigh Police Department and Parks and Recreation. The Education Exploration camp is a self-exploration program, designed to assist students in gaining a greater awareness of institutions of higher education throughout the state of North Carolina. Personal interest surveys, resume enhancement, and as many as three campus tours per day to many of North Carolina’s private and public Universities are just some of the resources that will be offered. Along with learning about the schools, campers will also have the opportunities to establish new friendships and get a small taste of the college atmosphere. This is a great chance for students to find the perfect school to prepare them for their future careers.

The Education Exploration camp will help each participant pinpoint a top quality school, which is best suited to their particular needs and interests. Participants will leave camp with a list of potential schools and goals, determined in a one on one setting with counselors, which will help them get to where they want to go in life. This camp will also provide unique opportunities, including SAT preparation and assistance in completing college and financial aid applications. A college admissions calendar will be provided to identify the necessary steps to apply for college and to ensure that families are aware of upcoming application deadlines.

Due to the involvement of RPD the amount of youth that are able to attend this camp has doubled.

JCPC All-Access Sports Week

Youth and Family Services

June 27th –July 1st

This camp is a partnership between the Raleigh Police Department and Parks and Recreation. The All-Access Sports Week is a camp designed to give teenagers a chance to learn more about the day to day operation of athletic events and facilities. The idea is to use athletics as the point of interest to motivate teenagers to discover the many aspects of a job in sports.

Over the course of the week, teens will travel to various athletic facilities throughout the Raleigh and surrounding area, touring each and getting a better understanding of what it takes to maintain the facility and host events. Each day the teens will apply what they have learned to planning and hosting their own all day soccer tournament at the Wake-Med field on Friday. Other activities, such as pool time and batting practice will be implemented to give teens a chance to experience the fun in sports as well.

Due to the involvement of RPD the amount of youth that are able to attend this camp has doubled.
