The Black Male Initiative (BMI), recently established by Keith Sutton, member of the Wake County Board of

Education, is a focused effort that seeks to address the issues that impact black males in the Wake County

Public School System. The BMI will lead provocative forums and discussions on topics that are critical to the

success and survival of young black men.

Men of all ages, especially between the ages of 10–19 are encouraged to come and share their thoughts and

hear from others regarding how the tragic death of Trayvon Martin has impacted their thoughts, as well as,

their future actions and behaviors. Participants will also hear from those with first-hand knowledge or expertise on how to handle situations where they may be judged by the color of their skin.
