Today marks the 11th year anniversary of the day R&B singer Aaliyah was tragically taken from this earth. She died in a fatal plane crash that not only claimed her life, but several of her associates. She was only 22, but her presence will live on for lifetimes to come.

A year before her untimely death, Aaliyah worked with rapper DMX on the set of the movie “Romeo Must Die.” They formed a friendship that X will never forget. In an interview with The Boombox, the “Where My Dogs At?” rapper remembers the time he gave the young superstar his jacket because she was cold.

“I had fun shooting that video,” said X. “My wife [Tashera Simmons] got mad because there was one scene I was sitting up on the bench and [Aaliyah] was sitting [below] between my legs. I had on a jean jacket, it was a little chilly, and [Aaliyah] just had on a T-shirt.

“I was rubbing her arms, warming her up… I just felt the eyeballs [from Tashera]. A wife can give you a stare that will burn the side of your head. It was like a magnifying glass with the sun on me [laughs]. But I wouldn’t change a thing.”

Mentor and friend, Missy Elliott tweeted this message:

“AALIYAH u will always be a 1 in A MILLION to your Fans & TheSupafriends Me,Timbo,Magoo,Ginuwine,Playa,Tweet,Nicole. WeLoveU.”
