Margaret Thatcher, Britian’s First Female Prime Minister, Dead At 87
Margaret Thatcher died today after suffering a stroke. Britain’s first and only female political leader passed away peacefully aged 87, after suffering from poor health for more than a decade reports CNN.
Her spokesman Lord Bell said: ‘It is with great sadness that Mark and Carol Thatcher announced that their mother Baroness Thatcher died peacefully following a stroke this morning’.
President Barack Obama offered his condolences and said the ‘world has lost one of the great champions of freedom and liberty, and America has lost a true friend’.
‘She stands as an example to our daughters that there is no glass ceiling that can’t be shattered’.
Known as the “Iron Lady,” Thatcher, as Conservative Party leader, was prime minister from 1979 to 1990.
