Mario Winans Child Support

Despite having produced some of the biggest hits in contemporary R&B, it looks like Mario Winans is having trouble making his child support payments. Winans’ ex and mother of his son is hauling the part-time singer into court because he allegedly owes more than $15,000 in back child support.

The court battle between Mario Winans and his ex, Janel Bennett, has been going on since 2007. And since then, she says that she’s had to have Mario Winans called into court 13 different times for the same reason–he keeps neglecting to pay child support. Bennett stated, “There is no excuse for this. Mario disappears. He always claims he can’t afford Jordan . . . My attorney has been trying to reach [him] now for a couple months.’

In the beginning, Janel Bennett was set to receive $4,500 a month for their son Jordan. Once she began to believe Winans and his current wife, Joy,  were going through a rough time with their finances, she had the payment lowered to $2,500. However, Bennett discovered she was being lied to and insisted they sit through mediation to come to an agreement about the child support amount. “We found out the truth and heard he was living very well. So we had a mediation and agreed to lower it to only $3,500,” Bennett explained.

Despite fighting for child support, Janel Bennett says she’s not some money hungry gold digger. “I just want justice for my son,” she concluded. And having produced hits for Diddy, Jennifer Lopez, 98 Degrees, and a host of others, he shouldn’t have to worry about child support. At least in theory.
