Family Fun is everywhere at Duke Homestead’s annual Summer Children’s Festival. Join in a day of free music, games, arts and crafts, and historic activities perfect for families and kids of all ages. This third and final installment of the three-part 2nd Saturdays series organized by the N.C. Department of Cultural Resources is a great way to wind down summer.
Go on a scavenger hunt for paw prints in the museum or head outside to a make and take craft station. Vendors will provide fun with a kid friendly craft from Home Depot, a giant playable chess table from Smart Moves and so much more! The local Police and Fire Departments will come out for a meet and greet with their fire trucks and police cars.
Grab a bite to eat if you get hungry or enjoy a popsicle from LocoPops. Chill out or get up and dance as you listen to the sounds of popular children’s band, Barron Von Rumblebuss play live on stage. The Kid’s Corral is full of fun with everything from bubbles, to corn toss, to archaeology!
It’s hands-on history in the historic home where kids can learn how to bake cookies the old fashioned way in the kitchen and try on life from another century with our dress-up trunk in the parlor. Whether you are one or 91, you’re sure to have a blast playing with 19th century games and toys, all with the sounds of fiddle and banjo music in the background.
