The City of Raleigh Police Department invites area residents to celebrate the 30th annual National Night Out on Tuesday, August 6.
National Night Out events will be held in neighborhoods through Raleigh. The larger community gatherings will be held in the North Hills community, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., 4154 Main at North Hills Street, 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Temple Baptist Church, 1417 Clifton Street, 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Tarboro Road Park and Community Center, 121 North Tarboro Street and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Carolina Pines Community Center 2305 Lake Wheeler Road.

In 2012, National Night Out involved 37.5 million people in 15,704 communities in all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities, and military bases worldwide. National Night Out is designed to:
• Heighten crime, drug and violence prevention awareness;
• Generate support for, and participation in, anti-crime programs;
• Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and,
• Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
National Night Out is a time for neighborhoods nationwide to join together and “give crime a going away party.” Along with the traditional display of outdoor lights and front-porch vigils, neighborhoods throughout Raleigh will celebrate National Night Out in a variety of events and activities such as block parties, cookouts, visits from local police and fire departments, flashlight walks, and youth programs. National Night Out has proven to be an effective, inexpensive, and enjoyable program to promote neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships in the quest for safer communities and a safer nation.
