Virginia native and former NBA All-Star Allen Iverson is officially retiring.  Reportedly, Iverson will announce his retirement from playing professional basketball within a few days.

The 38-year-old Iverson is preparing to make an official statement about his retirement from the NBA after being absent from the league since 2010.  Back in 2011 Allen Iverson played basketball overseas for a team in Turkey.   Even though he has been involved in a very nasty custody battle with his ex-wife, Iverson has made it clear that parenting is his top priority these days.   While speaking at a game in Philadelphia a few years ago, he said “my number one goal is trying to accomplish to be the best dad that I can. And if basketball is in my near future, then God will make that happen. But if not, I had a great ride and I’ve done a lot of special things that a lot of guys have not been able to accomplish and people thought I couldn’t accomplish.”

It’s a shame that the man who was once  the most feared point guards in the game wasn’t able to get back into the league and contribute to a team in some capacity.  He turned down several offers to return to the NBA through the D-League.  Even though he never won a championship his career averages of  26.7 ppg, 6.2 apg and 2.2 spg as well and 11 All-Star game selections, a league MVP award, four scoring titles show that the man known as Bubba Chuck will go down in history as one of the greats.
