Never one to shy away from controversy, talk show Queen, Wendy Williams, signed on as executive-producer for Lifetime’s Unauthorized Aaliyah biopic, Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B. A movie that Aaliyah’s family, record label, and fans are strongly against.

In a recent interview with Billboard, Williams talked about why she decided to be involved with the TV movie, which airs Nov. 15:

Why did you become involved?

Lifetime needed to tell this story correctly. Fans won’t say, “Oh, my God, how could you disgrace her memory?” And nosy people like me who want to find out things will also be fine.

What kinds of things?

Her upbringing. How did she meet R. Kelly? What did her parents say when their 15-year-old baby girl brought home a 28-year-old man? Aaliyah was a take-charge young lady with strong opinions about her career. This movie tells all those stories without being distasteful.

Honestly, I don’t expect much from this movie – it is Lifetime after all… BUT I am excited about seeing the live tweets during the movie. It’s gonna be a hot-dingy mess. And I can’t wait!
