drake diddyAfter news broke that Diddy and Drake got into a scuffle in a Miami club on Monday morning, early reports pointed to a disagreement over money or the possibility that Drake made an inappropriate pass at Diddy’s girlfriend Cassie as the cause.

Now, TMZ has learned that the fight, which apparently consisted of a single landed punch from Diddy, was actually sparked from a misunderstanding over a Boi-1da beat that both artists were given separately. The site reports that Boi-1da, Drake’s longtime producer who has collaborated more recently with Kanye West, Eminem, and G-Unit as well, gave both Diddy and Drake the same beat earlier this year. Drake, apparently impatient after months of Diddy doing nothing with the beat, decided to make it his own and spawned a hit single and another Grammy nomination in the process with “0 to 100/The Catch Up.

When Diddy and Drake met on Monday at LIV in Miami Beach it was the first time they’d crossed paths since the track was released, and the fallout over the song was the reason for Diddy confronting Drake. It was after the Nothing Was The Same rapper apparently ignored Diddy’s confrontation that the Bad Boy founder said, “You’ll never disrespect me again” and threw the now-infamous punch.

There are also rumors that Drake ended up in the hospital after the punch due to a renewed shoulder injury but that claim has yet to be substantiated.

Most recently, TMZ released a video of Diddy angry about the situation during a performance in Miami many months ago.

Drake also took to his Instagram account for the first time since the incident and seemed to vaguely allude to the rumors.
