It’s about that time for Ferguson’s Police Chief Thomas Jackson. He officially resigned today from Ferguson’s police department and the good-bye came eight months after Michael Brown’s death, which sparked national outrage. The resignation is also days after the Department of Justice released a harsh review of Ferguson’s police leadership, which was seen as systematically racist and violated the civil rights of Black people in the area.

Just yesterday, Ferguson’s City Manager John Shaw resigned and last week, it was Municipal Judge Ronald Brockmeyer and three cops who had exchanged racist emails about Black people and President Obama.
The entire department could be crumbling down because of the DOJ’s report and Eric Holder suggested Ferguson’s police department completely shut down in the very near future. Police Chief Jackson was routinely vilified in the media as a culprit to cops getting away with racist practices and he’s had to regularly appear in front of the nation to deliver developments on Brown, Darren Wilson (Brown’s killer) and the protests. Those updates did nothing to lift our hopes that action was being taken. But this resignation is a solid sign of changes to come in Ferguson’s law enforcement.
Reports also shared that he’s been willing to step down for awhile now, but wanted to see some further reforms come to fruition before he bowed out. Well, isn’t that noble.
