Pop star, Rihanna, has dominated the music scene for nearly a decade and now it seems as though her success has translated into movies as well.

The ‘Umbrella’ singer’s new Dreamworks animated movie, Home, is slated to exceed projections and debut at the #1 spot with $54 million made over the weekend.

This is no small feat for a couple of reasons: The lead character in Home is an animated cute black girl with big, curly hair – a huge risk, but rewarding, as millions of black girls around the world now have someone on screen who looks like them.

Still, the movie translated well with other races as well:

The pic drew an audience that was 48% Caucasian, 22% African American,  15% Hispanic and 15% Asian.  The future build-out of Home looks great, earning 5 out of 5 stars with parents and kids as well as an A CinemaScore.

And #2, the movie faced major competition from two of the biggest comedians in the world, Kevin Hart and Will Ferrell, with their new movie, Get Hard – which debuted #2 with 34.6M.
