Sawyer Sweeten stole the hearts of millions as a child star on the popular family sitcom “Everybody Loves Raymond.”

CNN reports that the child star committed suicide early Thursday morning. “This morning a terrible family tragedy has occurred,”  his sister Madylin Sweeten confirmed the news in a statement.

“We are devastated to report that our beloved brother, son, and friend, Sawyer Sweeten, took his own life. He was weeks away from his 20th birthday. At this sensitive time, our family requests privacy and we beg of you to reach out to the ones you love.”

According to Hollywood reporters, Sweeten was visiting with family in his hometown of Texas. It is believed that it was on their front porch that the 19-year-old shot himself.

Sweeten’s television career began when he was just one and a half years old playing next biological twin brother Sullivan, on “Everybody Loves Raymond.” Real-life sister, Madylin, played the twins’ TV sister, Ally Barone.

The series became a household hit running from September 1996 through May 2005.

The show appeared to be Sawyer’s only acting gig.

Condolences to the family and friends of this beloved actor.
