Police investigate Sen. Virgil Smith after shooting at Detroit home

Detroit Police are investigating a shooting involving a state senator on Detroit’s northwest side.

Police say the incident happened at the home of Senator Virgil Smith in the 18000 block of Wexford Street. He is accused of firing what is believed to be a shotgun, after a fight with his girlfriend, who is also his ex-wife. The bullet missed the woman, but hit her car.

Eastland Mall closed for day after shooting

Eastland Center, better known as Eastland Mall, is closed after a shooting forced the mall to lock down early Sunday afternoon.

Harper Woods police say no one was injured in the shooting, which happened just before 12 p.m. According to police, the shooting appears to have started with an altercation between three guys near the Target store.

Police are looking for a suspect described as a black male in his early 20s, wearing a black shirt and short pants. They say he escaped in a grey Range Rover, driven by a female wearing a yellow top … click here for more details.

Legally Armed in Detroit is hosting a free shooting lesson for 300 women next Sunday, May 17.

It’s happening at Target Sports Gun Shop Shooting Range located at 22509 Ecorse Road in Taylor.
