The unexpected passing of Brooklyn emcee Pumpkinhead, sent the hip-hop world into a state of grief on Tuesday. Today, artists, friends and fans of his are rallying to raise money for his funeral.

An online memorial fund was posted for the emcee who died on Tuesday at the age of 39. The news about his death quickly traveled around social media sites, and artists who knew and respected him paid tribute to the emcee with memories of their encounters. Among those were veterans like Pharoahe Monch, Chuck D and DJ Premier, as well as recent rappers like Blu and Donwill. As of this time, his cause of death has not been revealed. The emcee had a wife and two kids, with a third child on the way.

Robert Diaz, known in recent years as PH, was part of the independent Brooklyn hip-hop scene and was known for his skills as a battle emcee. Over the years he collaborated with Talib Kweli, Immortal Technique, Wordsworth and Sean Price of Heltah Skeltah, and his 2005 album Orange Moon Over Brooklyn was one of the last releases to be distributed by Rawkus Records. He was also part of the Brooklyn Academy collective with the likes of Jean Grae, Block McCloud, Icon, Will Tell and Mr. Metaphor.
