When injustice hits Raleigh – we are present, said Pastor Darnell Dixon during a charged rally at the Wake County Court House.
Pastors, gang members and community members alike joined the march down Fayetteville Street in downtown Raleigh (DTR) to express their concern and demand truth for why Akiel Denkins was killed last week.
Denkins, 24, was shot and killed by a Raleigh police officer after a foot chase in Southeast Raleigh. Accounts on what actually occurred vary. Police say Akiel was carrying a weapon and have produced a weapon that was said to be his. Those who were around the scene said he wasn’t.
Family, friends and the community just want the truth.
