In a series of events filed under “Why is this happening?,” Kanye West met with President-elect Donald Trump at Trump Tower in New York City on Tuesday to discuss “life,” DNAinfo reports.

West, sporting blond hair and escorted by a large entourage, entered the lobby under a halo of flashing lights.

According to The Hill, the two met for about 45 minutes in Trump’s quarters before making an appearance downstairs in front of photographers and journalists.

“Just friends, just friends,” Trump said to reporters after he exchanged a brief handshake with West in the lobby. “And, uh, he’s a good man. We’ve been friends for a long time.”

“I just want to take a picture right now,” West told the media shortly before he departed.

West emerged to make his first public appearance since his highly publicized hospitalization in late November.

His eccentric relationship with Trump was publicly scrutinized when West revealed during a November 17 stop on his “Life of Pablo” Tour that he would’ve cast a vote for Trump in the 2016 election––inciting anger from fans who felt West’s insensitive comments pandered to the White majority that supported Trump’s divisive rhetoric.

West also used several tour appearances to unleash his frustrations on Jay Z and Beyoncé, drumming up questions on the status of the trio’s friendship.

Will Trump and West continue their awkward, chummy relationship into 2020? After all, West announced his bid for the presidency during the 2015 MTV Music Awards.

Time will tell if this newfound friendship can withstand the strain of opposing political campaigns.
