The 16-year-old Rolesville student who was slammed by a high school resource officer in a recent viral video says that she was shocked and embarrassed after the incident. Classmates captured Jasmine Darwin attempting to break up a fight between her sister and another student when officer Ruben De Los Santos of the Rolesville Police Department picked her up and threw her to the ground.

“Every time I look at it, it’s embarrassing,” Jasmine Darwin told WISTV. “I didn’t even realize it happened. Like, I was in shock.”

Rolesville Police Chief Bobby Langston said that the fight began at 7:10am in the Rolesville High School cafeteria.

Santos worked as a resource officer at Rolesville High School for four years, according to WISTV. School spokesperson Lisa Luten told the television news outlet he’s been placed on administrative leave. The NC Bureau of Investigation has launched a probe into the incident, WISTV reports.

Darwin’s mother, Desiree Harrison says that she was never told about Jasmine’s involvement in the altercation when she reached out to them about the initial fight. It wasn’t until after she returned home that she was made aware of the video.

“They were so busy trying to get rid of the one who was in a fight but didn’t even say something about the one that was not involved in anything,” Harrison said.

She says that she took Jasmine to the hospital immediately where doctors told her that she had a concussion.

Investigators are reviewing the incident and Roseville High principal Dhedra Lassiter released a statement expressing her concern over the incident.
