Singer R. Kelly is being accused of holding women against their will in a sexual cult.
According to an article in Buzzfeed, parents are concerned that they have not heard from their daughters after they ran away to be with Kelly. The parents say that Kelly is abusing them and tearing their families apart.
Three former members of Kelly’s inner circle also spoke to Buzzfeed and confirmed similar accounts about Kelly. The former friends say that Kelly is holding the women in a home where they have little or no freedom and have to ask him for permission to do everything including using the bathroom, speaking, and texting on their cell phones
Three former members of Kelly’s inner circle — Cheryl Mack, Kitti Jones, and Asante McGee — provided details supporting the parents’ worst fears. They said six women live in properties rented by Kelly in Chicago and the Atlanta suburbs, and he controls every aspect of their lives: dictating what they eat, how they dress, when they bathe when they sleep, and how they engage in sexual encounters that he records.The last time J. saw her daughter was Dec. 1, 2016. “It was as if she was brainwashed. [She] looked like a prisoner — it was horrible,” she said. “I hugged her and hugged her
The article also exposes how Kelly is using his position as a legendary singer to lure women into his life so he can sexually exploit them, and keep them close to him so he can control every aspect of their lives.
Jones and McGee both said they lived with Kelly and had sexual relationships with the star at different times over the past five years before leaving. Their documentation of this time is limited, however, as they said Kelly controlled their phone and social media use while they were under his roof, and they were not allowed to take photos with Kelly or of the rooms where they were living.
The parents of the girls had no idea that Kelly would be a threat to their families and are seeking help from the FBI to get their daughters back home.
“And then one day we were looking for her because she should’ve been coming home from school,” Theresa said. “Then finally we get a text message saying that she’s OK, that she had met up with R. Kelly in his hotel. And I’m like, ‘You met up with R. Kelly at his hotel?’”
