Rising R&B singer Daniel Caesar really showed his a$$ this week, and it could’ve put a damper on his career.

Caesar is known for his soulful singing and intimate approach to music, causing him to gain a notable following amongst R&B lovers and Black music connoisseurs.

So you can imagine the hurt many people felt when he made an Instagram live video saying Black folks are “too sensitive” and are too “mean” to White people.

He made the statement in defense of YesJulz of all people, a White media personality who came after Karen Civil and Scottie Beam, also media personalities, for allegedly not supporting her in the hip hop industry. After YesJulz received backlash for taking aim at the two Black women, Mr. Caesar felt the need to defend her:

“Why are we being so mean to White people right now? That’s a serious question. Why is that we’re allowed to be rude and disrespectful to everybody else and when anyone returns any type of energy to us…that’s not equality.”

When people on IG live challenged Caesar on this whole Black people are being “mean to white people” notion, Caesar responded in the video:

“I see what you’re saying that White people have been mean to us in the past, what are you gonna do about that? Tell me what you’re gonna do about that? …Are we winning right now as a culture? Are we popular in society? We’re not. And you can’t win the game by choosing to not accept the winning team’s strategy. You have to acknowledge their strategy and build a strategy on top of that.”

So yup…

He came with AAALLL the fallacies.

Apparently, White people are the winning team to Daniel…

The same team that enslaved Black people, promoted Jim Crow laws, lynched, destroyed entire communities, implemented housing discrimination, carried out unjust criminal justice processes, cheated Black artists out of money, appropriated culture for profit, systematically kept Black people out of electoral politics, voted for Donald Trump, killed unarmed Black teens, colonized Black and Brown countries, displaced Black neighborhoods, and more?

That White people team????

Twitter was swift and merciless against Mr. Caesar…

Despite the dragging, there were some people who were ready to exercise patience with Daniel. Activist DeRay Mckesson, in particular, said he talked to Daniel, and he reported to Twitter that he’s “learning & growing re: understanding *systemic* racism & has more work to do. & he has begun to do that work.”

Well…

You hit us back Daniel if and when you’ve done that work.

Until then…

Big L for you this week.
