The one and only Maya Angelou’s amazing life story is coming to Broadway. Now if you think her life was simple and she just wrote poems, books and spoke beautiful words, you are sadly mistaken. Angelou’s life was full of exciting and hard moments. She was a fighter!

With the support of her son, Guy Johnson, the one-woman show entitled, Phenomenal Woman: An Evening with Maya Angelou will include some of her most famous written work plus some private deals about her and some never told Angelou stories. Ooh!

In a statement, Johnson said “My mother lived an extraordinary life. She brought a sense of passion to living and invested herself wholly in it. What she wanted most was justice for all human beings, and the freedom to experience joy and laughter. We hope to capture her joie de vivre. We’re going to include some private anecdotes that will be a revelation to audiences. I’m pleased to be working with this team in bringing her story to life and can’t wait for the public to experience it.”

We lost Maya Angelou at the age of 86 in 2014. The show is expected to premiere on Broadway in 2021.  No word on who is going to star as Maya Angelou yet. This should be GOOD!
