This is #LilNasX ‘s time and we’re here for it! The rapper’s song #OldTownRoad was removed from the Billboard Country Charts because Billboard stated the song lacked today’s country culture, meaning it wasn’t country enough! “When determining genres, a few factors are examined, but first and foremost is musical composition. While ‘Old Town Road’ incorporates references to country and cowboy imagery, it does not embrace enough elements of today’s country music to chart in its current version” says Billboard in a #RollingStone article.
Social media and other outlets took this removal and started a huge debate about the real reason the song was removed. This caused listeners to stream and download the song more than before. The rapper even got country singer #BillyRayCyrus to produce a remix to his song.
Since the song was taken off of the charts about a month ago, the song shot straight to no.1 on the #Billboard Hot 100. We hope that #LilNasX can be entered fairly into the Billboard Country charts.
