Mr Young,
We want to let you know how pleased we were to have Brian Dawson part of our school effort to improve the End of Grade (EOG) test results for the children. We wanted to use the Friday parties as an incentive for those students who did well on our weekly practice test. The performances by Brian gave excellent credibility to the celebrations because many of the students know him from his radio show,
The children loved the whole experience which gave staff members the chance to see the joy of learning reignited in some students who were feeling lost.
We serve 90% free & reduced lunch or at risk children, and for many of them Torchlight Academy is there only refuge. The work of Brian and his team enhanced the educational experience for these most in need and gave them hope for their future. Brian took pictures with the children which are now posted throughout the school,. He was patient and engaging as he got the staff involved which allowed the children to see another side of their teachers.
Bets of all this experience is having an effect on our test scores. We have seen a 20-25% increase in both math and reading practice test.
These are the kind of results we were hoping to acheive and the good work done by a decent man who is concerned about his community aided these results.
We will keep you posted on our final scores. We take the official EOG test June 2 – June 7 with final results to be announced June 21st.
