Black Music Month originated in 1979. Jimmy Carter proclaimed the month of June as Black Music Month to celebrate the wonderful music, the achievements, births, important timelines, events and to remember those we lost.

1. Garland Wilson
1909: Jazz & Blues pianist Garland Wilson was born. He worked frequently with Nina Mae McKinney and was a boogie-woogie and stride pianist. He passed away in 1954.(Photo: YouTube)
2. Gary U.S. Bonds
1981: ‘This Little Girl’ by Gary U.S. Bonds charted. It had been almost twenty years since he had a record chart.
3. Raz-B
1985: De’Mario Monte Thornton aka Raz-B was born. He is a singer and actor who was most notably a member of the early 2000’s rap group B2K– boys of the new millennium.
4. Rapper Lil Snupe
1995:Rising young rapper Adarren Ross better known by his pseudonym “Lil Snupe” was born this day. He was a Louisiana native, dubbed “Freestyle King,” and had a promising future. Meek Mill was awed with his demo tape and signed him to his label. He was fatally shot in 2013, aged 18.
