A lot of industry folks will tell you that it’s difficult to gather a fan base for female MCs. Since the Grammys eliminated the category all together a few years ago, the success of Nicki Minaj is seen more as a fluke than the norm. But the people behind those attitudes would be hard pressed to explain how Rah Digga and Eternia managed to pack Southpaw in Brooklyn NY to capacity during a cold rainy night.

With hosting done by radio personality Tasty Keish and the turntables being held down by the masterful touches of DJ Leecy T, and Suzan Z. Anthony the female’s most definitely came to play. After a hot opening set from LMNOP, Kalae All Day was up next with her mix of Hip-Hop & Rock-N-Soul over a full band that had the crowd seething with excitement.

After a small tech issue,  Nitty Scott MC aka “The Beautiful Beast” followed up strong followed by Philly’s own Zarinah who started her set to the beat of The Boondocks theme song MUCH to the delight of the crowd. After that the crowd was left to the lady known as Likwuid, who kept the energy level on high with a stirring performance.

After a brief intermission for the band set-up, Canadian implant Eternia started her set walking and rhyming through the crowd from the back of the room to the front of the stage and proceeded to tear the place down from start to finish. With her full band (including a beat boxer) wearing her signature “My Favorite Rapper Wears A Skirt” t-shirts, Ms. E rocked the spot, performing tracks form her Fat Beats Records distributed debut album At Last available now.

After a rousing round of applause for Eternia, the crowd swarmed to the front for the main event. And they were not disappointed as the Queen of Jersey rocking black and gold hit the stage like a force of nature, running through signature tracks and collabs like “Tight,” “Down For The Count” and more before finally stopping for a moment  to speak to the crowd.

“So you know how they always say us females cant get along… that we always beefin and sh*t,” she said. “That’s some BULLSH*T. I think everybody here can see that! Well I got a few special friends of mine to prove it!”

Dirty Harriet shifted into the next gear by bringing back Eternia for their song “The BBQ” and next by bringing up the BB Queen herself Bahamadia who performed her classic track “True Honey Buns” and “Total Wreck.” Not one to let up on the gas, Rah shifted into high gear, rocking tracks from her Nottz produced album Classic.

When it was all said and done and the audience poured out into the streets after swarming the merch tables, the crowd left knowing they had witnessed the present and future of female MCs and the future is bright as hell.
