Despite reports of almost calling the engagement off, Jennifer Hudson is moving forward with her wedding to professional wrestler and ex-reality personality, David Otunga. Speaking with Parade magazine, the Oscar winner says that their young son will be a part of the festivities. She also spoke of a new album, her latest acting role on NBC’s Smash, and how motherhood has surprised her.
Excerpts below:
Her wedding plans.
“My son won’t have it any other way: he’ll definitely be a part of it. Maybe he’ll even sing!”
On the surprises of motherhood.
“It made me realize how much my mom loved me and how much patience it takes. I think of the things my mom did for me and so I have to do it for my son. Now that I have a child, I get it. I get the example she set. It’s not always easy but it’s for love. You realize how much you can love and how much you give up for your child as a parent. I’m learning that through him.”
On writing her next album.
“My life experiences will be reflected in my music, it can’t help come out. I for sure want to write my baby a song. I don’t want anybody else to write it for me. It’s something only I can express.”
On her upcoming role on Smash.
“I’m excited about it. I’m gearing up for it. It’s a guest appearance but we’ll see how it goes! I”ll be singing and dancing since I play a Broadway star so Broadway stars do it all! If I’m doing it all, everybody better get ready!”
