With a mantra like, “I dress to express, not impress,” it’s no wonder the wardrobe stylist is on her way to the top. Beginning her journey as an apparel manager and stylist at Anthropologie on New York City’s 5th Avenue, she returned home for a slower pace only to have her resume and skills catapult her into many new ventures. Also a published author of her autobiography, Two Scrapped Knees: A Self-Portrait, and one half of the creative brand duppandswatt studios, there’s no limit to this lady’s artistry. We took a look at how she operates.

Arien Agurs Brings Style & Grace To The Masses [The Look]

1. How would you describe your style?

Other than ‘expressive,’ interestingly enough, I don’t. And, when asked, I typically reply that it can’t be defined as it’s a mix of this and that.

2. Who would you say inspires your style?

No one. Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of individuals who have incredible style, I just choose to do my own thing–allowing my own perspective to be witnessed.

3. Who is your favorite designer?

Hmmmm really? Do I have to decide? Guess I’m going to have to stick with MJ–Marc Jacobs, that is. However, I do love Proenza Schouler, Jeremy Scott, Anna Sui and a slew of street brands.

4. What accessory do you have to wear every day?

So here’s the thing, I can wear contacts and have in the past but, in my opinion, glasses are a great accessory. And, when it comes to frames, the bigger, the better! Besides eyewear, I would have to say, bracelets, chunky ones!

5. What’s your fashion pet peeve?

Following directions. Like, who says I can’t wear white after Labor Day? Who regulates what is ‘in’ and what’s not? Dear Fashion Gods, pardon me but I wear what I want, when I want, how I want.

6. What fashion tips would you like to share with others?

Don’t be afraid to mix prints and patterns as doing so makes for an interesting and quite edgy look.

7. What’s your favorite color?

*gasp* I love them all but I do have a special relationship with pink! xo

8. If you had to describe your style in terms of music, what artists, genre of music etc would you say best describes your style?

I would have to say, I’m the Grammy awards! Lol… Does that even make sense? Simply, my style covers a variety of genres so I’m R&B and pop, I’m both country and hip-hop, blues and jazz. Depending on the mood, I can be reggaeton on Monday and classical on Tuesday….. That, my dear, is the beauty of fashion, you can express yourself in so many ways as the options are endless.
