Upstart Brooklyn rhyme crew Pro Era was hit with the tragic news that group member Capital STEEZ (real name Jamal Dewar) died today. STEEZ’s friend and rhyme partner Joey Bada$$ tweeted the news to his friends and followers.
“This unfortunate xmas eve.. Lost a best friend, a brother, a pro, a partner,” Bada$$ wrote on his Twitter page. “Letting go is never easy. May ur soul rest in peace Jamal.”

This year Capital STEEZ had released a solo mixtape, AmeriKKKan Koruption and appeared on Joey Bada$$’s critically-acclaimed 1999 mixtape. The group just released a mixtape, PEEP: The Aprocalypse, a few days ago featuring STEEZ as well.
STEEZ’s final cryptic tweet, “The End,” has lead many to believe that he took his own life:
