UPDATE 2/15/13 07:06 p.m. EST Fugitive ex-cop and quadruple murder suspect Christopher Dorner was killed by a single gunshot wound in his head, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s office.

San Bernardino County Capt. Sheriff John McMahon told reporters on Friday that the wound seemed to be self-inflicted.

“The information that we have right now seems to indicate that the wound that took Christopher Dorner’s life was self-inflicted,” he said.

As the cabin he barricaded himself in went up in flames, reportedly after law enforcement set it on fire, a reporter from CBS local affiliate KCAL9 reported live on the air from the scene that everyone present had just heard a single gunshot come from the cabin.

UPDATE 2/14/13 06:56 p.m. EST  The human remains recovered from a burned-out cabin, are that of quadruple murder suspect Christopher Dorner, confirms The San Bernardino County Coroner’s office. His driver’s license was allegedly also found near the body.

UPDATE 2/14/13 10:08 a.m. EST In a press conference Wednesday night, Jim and Karen Reynolds (pictured below) said that they had contact with Chris Dorner who seemed to be living in their condo-style cabin since last Friday, according to the Associated Press.

According to the couple, after telling them he didn’t want to hurt them, Dorner tied them up and put pillows over their heads. Dorner then allegedly sped off in their purple Nissan. Eventually, though, the Reynolds were able to get to Karen’s cell phone and alert authorities to what had happened by dialing 911.

Watch the Reynolds discuss their experience here:

Originally it was reported that two maids were the ones Dorner tied up, so the Reynolds used the press conference to clarify the incident. While the Reynolds’ story hasn’t been confirmed yet by authorities, it has been confirmed that they are the owners of the property where Dorner supposedly resided.

UPDATE 2/13/13 4:03 p.m. EST Sixty-one-year-old Richard Heltebrake (pictured below) says that Chris Dorner carjacked his car by gunpoint near the Boy Scouts camp, where he works, according to CBS Los Angeles.

“Christopher Dorner jumped out in front of my truck. He apparently had crashed whatever vehicle he was driving, and he stopped me at gunpoint, Heltebrake said.

Once Dorner had reportedly gotten Heltebrake’s attention, he allegedly said he didn’t want to hurt him and that he should get out of the car and take his dog with him, “He said, ‘I don’t want to hurt you. Just get out and start walking up the road and take your dog with you.”

Afterward, Heltebrake said he heard gunfire erupt nearby, “Ten seconds later, there were a bunch of gunshots, which apparently were the deputies that were coming up the road right behind me,” said Heltebrake. “I started running through the snow and got behind a tree for some cover, and I called my deputy friend and told him what had just happened.”

UPDATE 12:18 p.m. EST According to the Guardian, police audio implies that the police started the fire around the cabin, where Dorner may have died, when they fired tear gas.

On the audio, police officers are heard discussing “going forward with the plan”:

All right, Steve, we’re gonna go, er, we’re gonna go forward with the plan, with, er, with the burn [or burner]. We want it, er, like we talked about.

Seven burners deployed and we have a fire.

A female voice responds:

Copy. Seven burners deployed and we have a fire.

At around 2min 20sec, a male voice says:

Guys, be ready on the No. 4 side. We have fire in the front. He might come out the back.
