You may remember Tommy Morrison as the former heavyweight champion who went to war with the likes of George Foreman and Lennox Lewis, or you may remember him as the actor who portrayed Tommy Gunn in the 1990 film Rocky V. Unfortunately, many remember Morrison for contacting HIV and announcing in 1996 that he would retire from boxing. Ten years after his original diagnosis Morrison began refuting the claims that he was HIV positive and instead claimed that the original test that he took provided inaccurate results. Morrison died Monday at the age of 44.

The family would not reveal the cause of death, but the man once known “The Duke” put up a hell of a fight in the 12 rounds of his life. He was a great puncher who had to continuously fight throughout his life both inside and outside of the ring. Even though he never fully lived up to his potential, with a record of 48-3-1 with 42 knockouts Morrison will definitely go down in history as a boxer to remember from the golden years of Tyson, Lewis, Holyfield, and Foreman .
