The music listening public first got a taste of the collaborative chemistry between De La Soul and the late James “J-Dilla” Yancey in 1996 for their title track “Stakes Is High.” Dilla’s flip of Ahmad Jamal’s Swahililand set the bar high for subsequent “Dilla Soul” songs like “Thru Ya City,” “Much More” and “Verbal Clap.”

To commemorate the 25th Anniversary of their debut, “3 Ft. High and Rising” De La Soul are releasing a mix tape called “Smell The DA.I.S.Y” featuring all beats by J-Dilla. The first song from that collection is a rework of their hit “Plug Tunin” called “Dilla Plugged In.” Listen to it below:

De La Soul recently gave their fans a treat by making most of their catalog available for free download on February 14th. They will be releasing two more mixtapes this year before finally releasing “You’re Welcome,” their first new studio project since 2004′s “The Grind Date.”
