D'Angelo Performs in London

Nick Pickles

D’Angelo dropped his anxiously-anticipated third studio album, Black Messiah, to everyone’s surprise on December 15.  Since then, long-time D’Angelo fans have been on stand-by, waiting for news of tour dates or at least a couple one night-only engagements stateside (European tour dates were announced shortly after the album’s released).  Word spread on Friday that D’Angelo is officially blessing the historic Apollo Theatre on February 7, bringing the Black Messiah experience—and probably a set filled with the classics that launched him into the neo-soul stratosphere.  With his backing band, The Vanguard, D’Angelo never fails to deliver hard-hitting funk, heart-stopping soul, and more than a little bit of rock and R&B, so no doubt the Apollo show is going to be one not to miss.  Tickets are scheduled to go on sale on January 21.
