Rash of break-ins has Southfield neighborhood on alert

Its a crime spree in a Southfield neighborhood that has got the attention of those who call the Bonnie Acres subdivision home.

According to those who live in the quaint neighborhood near 12 mile and Greenfield, thieves have been taking everything and anything.

Overturned tanker spills 9,000 gallons of fuel on I-75/I-375 connector, causes massive fire downtown

An overturned tanker spilled gasoline on a downtown Detroit freeway causing a massive fire Sunday morning.

According to the Michigan State Police Lt. Michael Shaw, approximately 9,000 gallons of gasoline were spilled on the freeway shortly before 9 a.m.  Marathon Oil was called to the scene to use foam to extinguish the flames.

The driver was able to escape the truck without injury, Lt. Shaw said.

A spokesperson for Nour Light Petroleum told FOX 2’s Robin Murdoch that it was their truck that overturned this morning.  The driver, Kai Moore of Detroit, has only been with the company for eight months.

Moore was about 15 minutes into his route from Dearborn to Pontiac, when his truck overturned this morning.

The fire was earlier declared a level 2 hazmat situation.

Curtrise Garner of the Detroit Water and Sewage Department said the water supply was not affected by the gasoline spilled on the roadway.

Portions of I-75, I-375, and surrounding surface streets remain closed at this time.  If you’re headed downtown Sunday, expect major traffic delays … click here for more details.

Detroit Pistons hold contest to makeover school’s reading room

The Detroit Pistons are accepting submissions from Michigan schools for their Reading Room Makeover contest co-sponsored by Farm Bureau Insurance.

Submissions will be accepted through June 1.
