Hulu is finally catching up to other TV/movie streaming services. It’s now offering almost ad-free subscriptions, but will cost customers $11.99 a month.


The company started charging for service in 2009, just a year after it launched, according to The Hollywood Reporter. For $7.99, cable cutters got to watch some of their favorite programs a day after it aired, proving to be convenient. After cries from customers about being bombarded with ads, Hulu asked users what they’d be willing to pay for an ad-free experience, and that price was $12.

But $12 will still get you some ads. Don’t fret, it will only be for seven shows, including ScandalOnce Upon a Time, and Agents of Shield.

Compared to other pay services, Hulu finds itself in the middle. Netflix is still $7.99 a month, with no commercials whatsoever, but users don’t get the pleasure of watching shows the day after airing. Amazon Prime, which also offers original programming like Netflix and Hulu, is $99 a year, but that all works out to be $8.25 a month. HBO and Showtime also offer standalone packages, for $14.99 and $10.99 respectively.
