Police in Brooklyn, New York have arrested the mother of a 2-year-old girl was killed in a fire that tore through the apartment complex where she lived.

According to police the woman, Leila Aquino was arrested on charges of reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child because she left the child home alone while she went out to work at a strip club.

Authorities say that the fire broke out early Tuesday morning and Kalenah Muldrow was home alone and died due to injuries caused by the fire.

After firefighters brought the blaze under control, authorities said Aquino returned to the building at around 9:45 a.m. and said she couldn’t find her 2-year-old daughter.

Emergency crews found the child unconscious and unresponsive underneath a bed on the second floor of the building.

The cause of the fire is still unknown. A portable space heater is preliminarily being looked at as the cause. The child is believed to have hid under the bed in a panic when the fire started and became trapped.

Detectives questioned Aquino and she claimed that she was out having drinks with her friends when the fire started, but that story is just not panning out. Cops believe that she was actually working at a strip club on Monday night until Tuesday morning.

This is just heart breaking…R.I.P. baby girl!
