Women’s Empowerment performers Jazmine Sullivan and Monica performed at the Black Girls Rock Awards last night. They #slayed!
Jazmine performed “Masterpiece (Mona Lisa),” song from her 2015 Reality Show project. The song is an affirmation to the beauty in every woman. The song opens with the songstress stating that she isn’t used to the spotlight and she was afraid of the attention, but she finally realizes that she is a masterpiece, much like Mona Lisa:
My eyes ain’t used to these rays
I’m feeling exposed, but I hide no more
I can’t hide
As the sun shines on all of my glory
My flaws don’t look so bad at all
What was I so afraid of?
Every part of me is a vision of a portrait
Of Mona, of Mona Lisa
Every part of me is beautiful
And I finally see I’m a work of art
A masterpiece
Later in the broadcast Monica hit the stage to perform “Alone in Your Heart,” the latest single from her current project Code Red. Her performance featured ballerinas and a very special guest.
