After his unexpected death last week Prince is taking over the Billboard charts. The pop icon took over the #1 spot on the Billboard 200 just hours after his death with 179,000 copies of his greatest hits project being sold. The Purple one’s “Purple Rain” album came in at number two while his entire catalog sold over 654,000 copies in the U.S. between April 15 and April 24 and his individual songs were downloaded over 2.8 million times during the same period of time.

In the week ending April 21, his catalog of albums sold 256,000…

As for his song downloads, 1.04 million were sold in the week ending April 21…

On Friday, April 22, his albums sold 227,000 while his songs moved 960,000 downloads. On April 23: 113,000 albums and 521,000 songs. And on April 24: 58,000 albums and 301,000 songs.”

His biggest selling albums in the April 15-24 frame were The Very Best of Prince(259,000), Purple Rain (152,000) and The Hits/The B-Sides (64,000). In terms of songs, the best sellers were “Purple Rain” (326,000), “When Doves Cry” (246,000) and “Little Red Corvette” (201,000).
