Miami Marlins pitcher José Fernández, 24, died unexpectedly early this morning in a boating accident in Miami. Details are emerging, but what we do know if that the top pitcher was found along with 2 others at Miami Beach after their boat crashed into a jetty. The bodies were found around 3:15 a.m.

More below:

“The Coast Guard arrived to the scene at around 3 a.m. to find a 32-foot boat upside down on a jetty off Miami Beach. Two of the victims were found dead under the vessel. One was found dead in the water. None of the deceased were wearing life vests.

Speed is suspected to be a factor in the accident because of the impact with the jetty, Veloz said. There was no evidence of alcohol or illegal drug use.

The Marlins announced that Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Braves has been canceled.”

R.I.P. to one of the leagues most talented and promising stars. Prayers up for his family and friends.
