According to WIRED magazine, the #10YearChallenge might actually be used to mine for data.  Some platforms strip EXIF data for privacy and by uploading or posting your then and now pictures help companies.

A lot of people have been helping companies mining for data and they know what you look like right now. It all started when Facebook posted a meme, “me in 2008 and me in 2018” and the challenge was on! Let’s say that you wanted to create or upgrade a facial recognition algorithm on age-related characteristics, what is an easy way to get millions of people to join your test study? Social Media!

Many privacy experts are worded that different companies will be able to read the data attached to the photo. This is data that can’t be removed. No sometimes using facial recognition data can be a good thing. Last year, New Delhi police reportedly tracked down about  3,000 missing kids in just a few days using facial recognition technology. WOW, now if we could use that in the US, that would be great. But no one knows if our police department would do that or if it would be for other reasons.

CBS This Morning did a feature about the #10YearChallenge.Things are still developing about what the pictures are being used for or if they are being used. Hopefully, it’s just a fun game that will end soon, if not, keep your eyes open. Wow, who would have thought posting 2 pictures would change everything!
